Research
The science is only useful
if it can be applied.
AIHL is building an original longitudinal research program with its members, designed to understand how ageing actually works — not in animal models, but in real people over real time.
It's being developed with research partners, and every study will have independent ethics approval and registration with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry before members are invited.
Our Approach
Research built on
members, not mice
Most longevity research happens in animal models or isolated cell cultures. AIHL's research will be built directly from human data — gathered longitudinally, ethically, and with member consent.
Longitudinal biomarker tracking
Members test at regular intervals over years. That longitudinal record is what will make our research meaningful — it shows how individual markers change over time, not just where they sit at a single point.
Geroprotective compound studies
We're designing controlled trials of compounds with potential to modify the biology of ageing. These are not wellness supplements — they are investigational therapeutics, to be evaluated against rigorous pharmacokinetic and transcriptomic endpoints.
Transcriptomic profiling
Beyond standard bloodwork, our studies will include gene expression analysis to understand how candidate therapeutics interact with key longevity pathways — including mTOR, AMPK and sirtuins — at a molecular level.
Members as the cohort
As the program opens, members will be invited to take part, with explicit consent, building a well-characterised cohort with a longitudinal depth that is rare in longevity science.
Research & Science
We don't wait for
the science to arrive.
We make it.
AIHL is building its geroprotective research program with research partners, investigating interventions that may slow, halt, or reverse aspects of biological ageing.
Founding members will get priority access to participate in these trials as they launch, where eligible, putting them at the leading edge of what the field is learning.
Designed with research partners, and run only after independent ethics approval. Founding members will hear first.
Research standards
Held to
academic standards
AIHL's research program is led by our Chief Scientific Officer, Associate Professor Nic West, and is being developed with research and analytical partners. Every study will undergo independent ethics review, be registered with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry, and be held to academic publication standards.
Our partners give AIHL access to research-grade analytical infrastructure, such as transcriptomic analysis and accredited bioanalytical laboratories, that would otherwise be out of reach for an institute of our size. We'll name partners as agreements are confirmed.
