Who is AIHL for?

AIHL is for adults who want to be proactive about how they age and are willing to engage with their health over years, not weeks. It isn't an urgent-care service: if you have a serious or unstable condition, your GP and specialists should continue to lead your care.

Does AIHL replace my GP?

Accepted Answer

No. AIHL complements your GP; it doesn't replace them. Keep your GP and specialists for day-to-day care, acute issues, prescriptions and ongoing management. We focus on in-depth measurement, tracking and education, and we encourage you to share your results with your GP.

Are there any extra costs?

No. Everything in your tier is included in your membership fee. Optional add-on tests are available separately if you'd like them. See the Program page for pricing.

Can I claim Medicare, private health insurance or DVA?

No. Membership fees aren't claimable through Medicare, private health insurance or DVA.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes. You can cancel at any time by giving 30 days' written notice to info@aihl.au. Your membership stays active through the notice period. Please see our Terms & Conditions for full cancellation terms.

Will my data be used for research?

When you join, your de-identified data is included in the AIHL Research Registry, which will help build long-term evidence on how people age. You can opt out at any time without affecting your membership. The registry will only be used for research once independent ethics approval is in place. Clinical trials are separate: taking part is always voluntary and needs your separate consent.

What is the Australian Institute for Human Longevity (AIHL)?

AIHL is a science-led longevity membership founded by clinicians and scientists. Our focus is healthspan: the years you live in good health. Members get in-depth biomarker testing, results tracked over time, evidence-based education and a private community, with priority access to our research program as studies open.

Is AIHL a medical practice, a research organisation, or both?

AIHL is a health screening, education and research organisation, not a general practice. Your membership covers testing, tracking, education and community. Our research program is being developed now, and every study will have independent ethics approval before members are invited to take part.

How is AIHL different from other health checks or longevity clinics?

AIHL is built around measurement and evidence: 100+ biomarkers tracked over years, education grounded in peer-reviewed science, and a research program designed to find out what actually works. We don't sell treatments or supplements.

Do you guarantee any health outcomes?

No. We don't guarantee any health outcome, disease prevention or longer life. Biology is complex and people respond differently. What we offer is careful measurement, tracking over time and evidence-based education, so you can make informed decisions with your own doctors.

How do you make sure what you do is safe and evidence-based?

Everything we teach and recommend is grounded in peer-reviewed evidence, and we say so when the evidence is still emerging. Any intervention studied in our research program will run under an ethics-approved protocol with careful safety monitoring.

Can AIHL prescribe medication or treatment?

No. AIHL doesn't prescribe medication or provide treatment. Your results come with general guidance and education, and your GP remains responsible for any treatment decisions. If a future research study involves an intervention, it will be explained in full and only offered under an ethics-approved protocol, with your separate consent.

How long do I need to be a member to see benefit?

Ageing and long-term risk change over years, so membership is designed around tracking change over time, with a retest every year. Some markers can shift within months, but we encourage thinking in multi-year horizons.

Do I need a GP referral to join?

Accepted Answer

No. You join AIHL directly online, with no referral needed. After you complete your intake questionnaire in the member app, we send your pathology request.

What is the founding member rate?

The founding member rate is a discounted price locked for 3 years, as long as your membership stays continuous. It's available to the first 100 members.

What's the difference between the three tiers?

All tiers include a comprehensive biomarker panel, general guidance on your results, your personal dashboard, the AIHL Longevity Education Program, the member community, and priority access to upcoming trials. Tier 2 adds an expanded panel with advanced longevity markers such as inflammatory cytokines and GDF15. Can I upgrade my tier later?

Yes, you can upgrade at any time. Your founding rate applies to the tier you join at; upgrades are charged at the current rate at the time.

How long from joining to my first results?

Once you've completed your intake and had your blood drawn, initial results are typically available within a week. Some advanced markers take longer, and imaging is booked separately.

Where do I get my blood drawn?

Accepted Answer

At an accredited pathology collection centre near you, anywhere in Australia. We work with multiple pathology providers, so you can use whichever is most convenient. No clinic visit or specialist appointment is needed.

Do I need to fast before my tests?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most panels require a 10–12 hour overnight fast before your blood draw. Full preparation instructions come with your pathology request. If you take any medications or supplements, check with your doctor before changing them.

What is a DEXA scan and where do I get one?

Accepted Answer

DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) is the gold standard for measuring body composition: lean mass, fat mass and bone density. It's a low-dose scan that takes around 10 minutes. Where your tier includes DEXA, we send a request for one of our partner imaging providers.

What is PhenoAge and how is it calculated?

PhenoAge is a validated algorithm, developed from large longitudinal studies, that estimates biological age from a set of standard blood markers. Biological age is complex and no single measure captures it, so we present PhenoAge as one estimate alongside the individual markers behind it, not as a definitive number.

How long does it take to get my results?

Initial blood results are typically available within a week of your blood draw, and appear in your dashboard as they're ready. Advanced and research markers can take several weeks, and imaging is booked separately.

Who reviews my results?

Your results come with general guidance on your biomarkers, and Tier 3 includes an annual doctor review. If anything needs follow-up, we'll flag it and refer you to your GP or an appropriate practitioner.

What happens if you find something serious in my results?

If a result needs prompt attention, we'll contact you and, with your consent, your GP or relevant specialist. Your own doctors then lead any further investigation and management. We don't diagnose or treat medical conditions.

Can I share my results with my GP or specialists?

Yes, and we encourage it. You can download your results from the member app to share with your GP or any other practitioner, so they can inform your ongoing care.

Which wearables connect to the dashboard?

The member app connects with major wearable platforms. It's optional: your biomarker panel is the core of your membership, with or without a wearable.

How often do I retest?

Your membership includes a comprehensive annual panel. We'll send your next pathology request when it's due, with reminders in the member app.

Do I have to take part in clinical trials?

No. Clinical trial participation is always voluntary. As studies open, eligible members will be invited, but there's no obligation and your membership isn't affected either way. Eligibility depends on each study's inclusion and exclusion criteria.

What kinds of research will AIHL run?

AIHL is building a geroprotective research program: studies into interventions that may slow or modify aspects of biological ageing, which may include investigational compounds, lifestyle interventions and novel biomarkers. Every study will have independent ethics approval before members are invited.

Who leads the research?

Our research program is led by our Chief Scientific Officer, Associate Professor Nic West, and developed with research partners.

Will the research be ethics-approved?

Yes. Every study will be reviewed and approved by an independent human research ethics committee, and clinical trials will be publicly registered on the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry, before any member is invited. Each protocol will set out what's collected, any interventions, and how results are analysed and reported.

Do I get access to research findings?

Yes. As studies conclude, members will hear the findings first, before academic publication.

Members choose to join. Doesn't that make the data biased?

Yes, our data will carry selection bias, and we're upfront about that. We'll counter it with scale and depth: very detailed, long-term data on each member, analysed with established methods for observational research. We'll be transparent that these are real-world observations, not trial results.

Why is AIHL's research funded by membership?

Ageing and chronic disease unfold over decades, but research grants typically last 2–5 years. Because AIHL's research is funded by its members, it can run over many years: enrolling, following up and refining. Surplus can also help fund independent trials of the most promising findings.

How will AIHL's findings feed into independent clinical trials?

Our long-term data will help identify which interventions look most promising and design sharper trials: who to include, what to measure and for how long. Confirmatory trials will be run independently, by third-party investigators with their own governance and ethics oversight.

How do you handle conflicts between business and science?

Through independent ethics review, separating commercial decisions from research decisions, and transparency: we aim to publish methods and results, including what doesn't work, and to support independent validation of key findings.

Will my data ever be shared or sold?

We never sell your personal health information. As our research program opens, we may work with approved research partners using de-identified or aggregated data, under ethics oversight. Nothing published will identify you.

Can I withdraw my data from research?

Yes. You can opt out of the Research Registry at any time. Data already included in completed analyses or publications can't be removed retrospectively, but your record will be excluded from future work.

Can I pay monthly instead of annually?

Yes. All tiers can be paid annually (single payment) or by monthly direct debit. There's no deposit or joining fee, just your membership fee. See the Program page for exact figures.

Why is the first monthly payment higher for Tier 2 and Tier 3?

On monthly plans, the first payment for Tier 2 ($449) and Tier 3 ($949) covers the extra onboarding work and the more extensive testing we arrange up front, including test kits, pathology and imaging. It's part of your membership fee, not a deposit, and your regular monthly payments follow.

Do you offer refunds?

If you cancel, any refund is calculated pro rata, based on the testing and services already provided. Anything already delivered, such as completed pathology, imaging or reviews, can't be refunded. Your first payment is only refundable if you cancel before any services have been provided. Nothing in our Terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
