About AIHL

Most health care waits
for something to go wrong.
We don't.

The Australian Institute for Human Longevity is a longevity science institute founded by clinicians and scientists. Members get research-grade biomarker testing, results tracked over time, evidence-based education, and priority access to our research program as studies open.

We exist because the gap between “you're healthy” and “we need to talk” is where most preventable illness develops — and because that gap deserves rigorous science, not wellness guesswork.

Our Purpose

Built for the gap between
“you're fine” and
“we need to talk.”

Most people receive a clean bill of health right up until they don't. Not because nothing was changing — but because standard care isn't designed to look that far ahead. It treats illness expertly. It's just not built to prevent it.

AIHL was founded to close that gap — not with supplements or self-tracking apps, but with the same quality of longitudinal science used in academic research. The biomarkers we measure are validated in peer-reviewed literature. Every result comes with evidence-based recommendations. And every study in our research program will run under independent ethics oversight.

We also know the longevity space is noisy. New tests, supplements, and programs appear faster than the evidence to evaluate them. Part of our purpose is to cut through that — to be a place where the science is treated seriously, and where members can trust that what we do is grounded in evidence, not trend.

Every Australian deserves not only a long life, but a long healthy life — supported by a system they can trust.

AIHL — proactive, evidence-based health

The Manifesto

Read what we
actually believe

The AIHL Manifesto sets out our institutional position on preventive health, longevity science, and the structural changes needed to make proactive health sustainable and equitable in Australia. Available in two versions depending on your context.

Public vision

A Healthier Future for Every Australian

The vision of the Australian Institute for Human Longevity.

A plain-language statement of what AIHL believes, why the current system falls short, and what a proactive, evidence-driven model of health care can achieve for every Australian.

For policy makers

From Reactive Spending to Preventive Investment

A national inflection point.

The economic and institutional case for reorienting Australia's health system toward advanced prevention — with a framework for policy-ready evidence and scalable implementation.

“The current challenge is largely structural, not just scientific. Our technologies, diagnostic capabilities, and preventive interventions already exist. What lags is incentive alignment — and a trusted framework for separating what works from what sells.”

AIHL Manifesto

The Founders

Clinicians and Scientists,
committed to the science

AIHL was built by clinicians and scientists who wanted to do something the standard system couldn't — track health over time, build original research, and give members direct access to what the science is actually finding. The people who set our testing standards are the same people building our research program.

Simon Baarbé
Simon Baarbé, MD BEScChief Medical Officer

Simon is a physician–engineer focused on reimagining how medicine is practiced, shifting it from reactive and disease‑centred to preventive, systems‑driven, and optimisation‑oriented. His work is shaped by a deep reverence for objective truth and frustration with marketing‑driven hype. He aims to translate geroscience into robust, scalable, evidence‑based approaches that hold up in the real world.

Simon co-founded the Australian Institute for Human Longevity to help establish a new standard for the field: rigorous, evidence‑based and prevention‑first, giving people more years of high‑functioning life and greater autonomy over their long‑term health trajectory.

Nic West
Nic West, PhDChief Scientific Officer

Nicholas West leads the scientific and research strategy underpinning AIHL's longevity and healthspan programs. He is an associate professor at Griffith University where he co-leads the Mucosal Immunology Research Group and the Genomics Facility. His research focuses on immune ageing, chronic inflammation and the microbiome. By combining academic rigour with clinical innovation, Nic helps translate advances in research into practical, evidence‑based approaches for optimising healthy ageing.

Richard Gabbrielli
Richard Gabbrielli, MPhtyChief Executive Officer

Richard is an entrepreneur, physiotherapist and functional medicine practitioner with an obsession for longevity science and an evidence-based approach to health. He has built businesses across a range of industries including healthcare, wellness, manufacturing and e-commerce, and brings the same drive for excellence to everything he touches — from the teams he builds to the standards he holds AIHL to. Co-founding AIHL was the natural next step — a vehicle for his passion for evidence-based longevity science, clinical innovation, and the belief that proactive health shouldn't be something people discover only after something goes wrong.

Research program

Building the science,
with our members.

AIHL is building a geroprotective research program with research partners, investigating interventions that may slow or modify how we age at a biological level. It's led by our Chief Scientific Officer, Associate Professor Nic West, and every study will have independent ethics approval before members are invited.

As studies open, founding members will hear first and eligible members will be invited to take part. Participation is always voluntary, and it helps build an evidence base that doesn't yet exist in Australia.

Our Values

What we believe,
and how we work

01
IntegrityTruth

We say what the evidence supports — and we're clear about where it doesn't. In a field full of overstatement, we'd rather tell you something is promising but unproven than pretend certainty we don't have.

02
EvidenceRigour

Every biomarker we measure and everything we teach is grounded in peer-reviewed science. As our research program opens, we'll publish what we find, including what doesn't work.

03
PioneeringFrontier

We're not waiting for the mainstream to catch up. We're building a research program to test what works, share findings with members first, and build the evidence base others will follow.

04
ExcellenceOwnership

We take the quality of your results seriously. Our testing standards are set by the same clinicians and scientists building our research program — not a call centre or an algorithm working from a template.

05
CollaborationTogether

Our members aren't just customers — they're part of a community that learns together. As our research grows, the more we learn collectively, the better the science gets for everyone involved.
